Jeff Casassa
Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety

ORC welcomes Oriental’s finest, Jeff Casassa. Chief Casassa has been the Oriental’s Chief of Police since April 1, 2005. He holds an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Craven Community College. Prior to coming to Oriental, Chief Casassa held dual certification as a North Carolina Division of Community Corrections Surveillance Officer and worked as a Police Officer for the Town of River Bend. Chief Casassa has served in North Carolina since 1989 when he graduated from Basic Law Enforcement Training at Craven Community College.
Since coming to the Town of Oriental, Chief Casassa has written successful grants to the Governor’s Highway Safety program and the Governor’s Crime Commission, which brought new equipment and a new police officer. Chief Casassa is an active member with the Domestic Violence Task Force of Pamlico County. Under Chief Casassa’s guidance, the department has enhanced its community policing efforts by institutionalizing the community policing philosophy and empowering our citizens to get involved to solve problems and address long standing community concerns within the town. When he’s not patrolling Jeff enjoys riding his motorcycle. Jeff and wife Mary live in Oriental.
News in Review from the Board

-Sam Meyers introduced a fund-raising project whereby ORC and the Committee of 100 would partner to sponsor the 2010 Oriental-in-Water Boat show, scheduled for 17 and 18 April. (The Committee of 100 is a non-profit service organization working to bring business to Pamlico County, to create more and better jobs and to foster a healthy economy.) The show will feature area dealers presenting sail, power and paddling boats – from runabouts and kayaks to classic and new yachts – both on the water and on shore. Other marine businesses will have booths and give demonstrations while local experts speak on a range of topics during a full slate of seminars. The Club would split proceeds with 40% to ORC and 60% to Committee of 100. ORC’s commitment will be “boots on the ground” during the two-day event. ORC is considering provision of an haute cuisine selection of dogs (hot of course) burgers and shrimpies. The Board approved participation in this event.
-Warren Funk reported that in February ORC will coordinate with Habitat for Humanity to assist in home construction.
-President John received a request from Camp Seafarer for a $150-contribution per individual to send a local child to a10-day camp. The Board approved funding for five Pamlico County children.
-George Link notified the Board that District 7720 has approved $2,500 for the India Water Project. Currently George is waiting for the Indian component to approve the remaining $2,500 to secure the irrigation project.
-George is the chief Tarponista for the 2010 tournament. He has summoned his minions to the first planning session, scheduled for Tuesday, 12 January, 5:00 p.m.at Captain Larry’s.
